BUILDING CAPACITY

Through our work in the design, testing, and administration of self-employment programs, SEDI has become experienced in building the capacity of organizations dedicated to training and counselling in the development of micro-enterprises and self-employment.

Program Development and Administration
SEDI has developed and administered various programs designed to build individual and organizational capacity such as our administration of the SEB Program in the city of Toronto; the Ontario Self Employment Delivery Alliance; the Exploring Self Employment Opportuniies for People with Disabilities; the Community Building Initiave Serving People with Disabilities; and, our latest project Building A Bridge to Self-Employment for People with Disabilities.

Capacity Building

SEDI is excited about our newest project that began February 2005 -

The Building A Bridge to Self Employment for People with Disabilities. Supported by Human and Skills Development Canada's (HRSDC) Office of Learning Technologies, this 3 year project will work with 5 communities in 3 provinces to develop and test online self-employment resources and e-learning opportunities for people with disabilities interested in self-employment and the organizations that serve them.   The project will build a Community Learning Network among business development organizations and disability organizations in these communities who work to increase access to self- employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Another capacity building project, called the Community Building Initiative, was a two-year project funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2003 and 2004.  Project objectives were to build the capacity of disability and business development organizations to effectively utilize self-employment self-assessment products designed for persons with disabilities, as well as to provide an opportunity to build bridges and knowledge between sectors.  A final report of the project is availalbe under Resources.
