CONSULTING

SEDI has a proven track record in consulting, both in Canada and abroad, sharing our successful domestic policies practices wherever they might be of service. We provide technical assistance to groups and communities interested in developing their capacity in sectors such as enterprise development, business development services, employment services and savings and asset building. Our initiatives in these areas serve low-income adults, youth, women and people with disabilities.

Domestic
Recent consulting projects include:

  • Providing assistance to the Toronto CED Learning Network in developing a corporate partnership strategy for sustaining their Toronto Communities Catalogue

  • Delivering train-the-trainer workshops and customizing a financial literacy curriculum for an Individual Development Account (IDA) pilot project in the Ottawa area


One way SEDI can provide consulting to organizations is with funding from CEDTAP (Community Economic Development Technical Assistance Program). CEDTAP connects community groups interested in building capacity in a particular CED activity with organizations that have established track records in that field. CEDTAP provides funding of between $5,000 and $25,000 to enable local groups to acquire the services of an accredited provider organization. The program was established as a partnership between the J. W. McConnell Family Foundation and Carleton University. SEDI is an accredited CEDTAP provider agency.

International
Over the past several years, SEDI has shared its capacity-building expertise internationally in sectors such as enterprise development, business development services, employment services and savings and assets-building. Our initiatives in these areas serve low-income adults, youth, women and people with disabilities. Through the collective efforts of our in-house staff and affiliated personnel, we have delivered enterprise development services in a number of developing nations and countries in transition.

Results from our recent initiative in Canadian-Russian partnership include:

  • The Establishment of Seven Career Centres which act as innovative vehicles for women to increase their competitiveness in the Moscow region’s labour force

  • The organization and implementation of an international conference on Self-Fulfillment of Women and Career Development in Russia which brought together Russian elected officials, senior Ministry of Labour staff, trade unions, voluntary organizations representatives, Employment Centre staff, media and Canadian self-sufficiency experts

  • A series of youth awareness sessions delivered to approximately 30 Russian staff to enhance their skills in dealing with the youth-at-risk target population

  • Training courses, manuals and training guides researched and developed for Career Centre staff and future clients

  • A regional job fair on women’s employment involving over 700 participants


SEDI is eager to share our domestic policies and practices throughout Canada, as well as with developing nations and countries in transition. We know there are many places where our experience would make a real difference. We are currently seeking opportunities to do so, and partners with whom to engage in these initiatives.
